These Pickup Trucks are Getting Electrified in 2023 – Here’s What We Know

Truck EV models

2023 will undoubtedly be the year of the electrified pickup truck. These heavy-duty beasts which have long been seen as gas guzzlers are beginning to turn heads again, this time for a different, more eco-friendly reason. As popular models like the F-150 and the Silverado move into the EV space, buyers are welcoming the move as a way to have the best of both worlds; heavy-duty power and eco-friendly vehicles.

While there’s still room in the far-off distance for electric vehicles to refine their truck offerings, 2023 promised to be an exciting year for makers like Ford, Chevy, and GMC. Let’s take a look at the truck EV models that are going to be hitting the marketplace in 2023.

1. Chevy Silverado EV

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is going to look much different than its gas powered counterpart when it hits the market in 2023. The Silverado will still feature that heavy duty aura typically of your classic pickup, but the body style is much sleeker and in tune with that of other electric vehicles on the market. The classic heavy duty front grill of the 1500 is replaced with a sleeker, almost minimalistic design on the EV model. The body is also sleeker with less defined body indents as well.

Chevy’s Silverado EV will feature a standard all wheel drive powered by General Motors’ Ulitium electric vehicle components. The unique ground-up construction will feature the GM’s all new battery platform which promises flexibility, power, and force. On a full charge, drivers can look forward to an impressive 400 mile range and up to 664 horsepower.

The Silverado EV’s power is matched by its tech performance. GM’s Ultifi will power all the software needs of the Silverado EV and will offer a range of features including downloadable apps and over the air (OTA) updates.

What’s nice about this EV power push is that in addition to the truck bed, the Silverado EV will also free up space under the hood, leaving you with more storage space to tote around all your gear.

2022-Ford-F-150-Lightning

2. Ford F-150 Lightning

America’s best selling truck has also gone through an EV transformation. The Ford F-150 Lightning will be the brand’s EV truck set to go on sale in late 2022. Much like its predecessor, the F-150 Lightning will stay true to its gas powered counterpart. However, buyers can expect a more refined look through the chrome accents, refined grill, and overall sleeker style.
The F-150 Lightning will be offered in a variety of trims with the entry level Pro Model starting at $41,669. Prospective buyers can bump up their experience with the XLT, Lariat, and Platinum trims as well, with each trim offering more comfort and luxury options for an exceptional driving experience.
Buyers will find just as much power and performance as the Lightnings gas powered predecessor. Each axle will be powered by an electric motor giving driver’s the advantage of all-wheel drive. Models energized by a standard 98.0 kWh battery pack can deliver a peak of 246 horsepower with an estimated range of 250 miles. The bigger 131.0 kWh battery pack will offer drivers a peak of 563 horsepower with an estimated range of 300 miles.

GMC Sierra

3. GMC Sierra

GMC will also follow the list of electrified trucks by introducing their Sierra EV, the third EV product in their portfolio. The Sierra will closely resemble Chevy’s Silverado EV in both body and most likely performance. Because the Sierra is set to go on sale in 2023, not much has been released about all that drivers can expect. However, buyers should expect the standard model to feature a rear-wheel drive one motor setup, while optional add ons will include a two motor setup for those wanting all-wheel drive. It’s also anticipated that the Sierra will offer different size battery options ranging from standard sizes to a maximum 200.0 kWh battery pack.
The Sierra will join GMC’s current EV lineup which includes the GMC Hummer EV pickup and the GMC Hummer SUV. The Sierra EV will also be built upon GM’s Ultrium battery platform. The price tag of the Sierra EV will likely start at around $50,000. Optional add ons and trim levels could of course drive this price up as well.

Rivian-Blue

4. Rivian

The Rivan is another EV truck gaining popularity in the world of heavy duty electric vehicles. The R1T is the brand’s pickup model and it features a rugged design with promising power.
The Rivan truck touts itself as the world’s first electric adventure vehicle and promises to deliver a top notch ride built for adventure. The highlight of the R1T is the Dual-Motor battery pack which can offer anywhere from 260 – 400 miles. The three trim options, Explorer, Adventure, and Launch Edition offer different but overlapping features. With the latter building on the features of the former.
This EV truck features a standard all-wheel drive with an impressive waiting depth of 3 + ft. Other neat features include adjustable height, pedal response, and suspension. Different Drive Modes allow you to adapt to the different terrain you are on. Features including LTE and Wi-Fi capability, Bluetooth, Alexa voice commands, and much more are all ways the R1T stands true to EV software performance.
The Future of Ev Trucks
Scoot over Tesla’s Cybertruck, in true capitalist fashion, EV trucks are making a name for themselves in the space of electric vehicles. When the Cybertruck first came on the scene, the concept seemed like a novelty. Today, however, it’s clear that electric vehicles are here to stay and it’s about time EV trucks have joined in on the fun.

While it may be difficult to get your hands on one of these innovative pickup trucks for a while, it’s never too late to consider looking at a used GMC Sierra for sale as this model comes highly rated. If you are new to the world of pickup trucks, traditional gas powered pickups can be a nice way to close that learning curve before you jump onto the EV models.
