Four Eggs and a Week of Waiting

Police first shared the discovery on May 30, when personnel found that a mother bird had built a nest and laid four eggs in the storage compartment of the not-in-service motorcycle used for traffic officer training.

Then came the waiting. Anyone who has ever watched a nest knows that eggs hatch on their own schedule, and nobody can rush it. After about a week, the patience paid off. On a Sunday, the department revealed that the mother, nicknamed Traffic Birdie, had successfully hatched two of the eggs.

Officers on Nest Duty

Instead of clearing out the nest and moving the motorcycle, the department chose to let nature run its course.
