Newer on the block is the GMC Terrain, but it too has managed to win a legion of fans with its good looks and plentiful options. Let’s compare.
The Honda CR-V Keeps Improving
The 2024 Honda CR-V improves upon the previous model with a more conventional design and some suspension tweaks. It features a four-cylinder engine that makes 190 horsepower paired with a CVT, bringing fuel economy numbers up to 30 MPG combined. With AWD, that number drops to 29 MPG.
AWD is available on all three trims of the CR-V and all models feature Hill Descent Control. This tech is generally only found on off-road vehicles with 4WD, but the CR-V uses it on all models. If you happen to be driving down a steep slope, you can set a slow speed between 2 and 12 MPH and the CR-V will handle the rest as you simply steer.
The interior of the CR-V is spacious enough for five passengers with plenty of rear legroom. There is also ample space behind the seats for cargo. The Stabilizing Seats in the front are uniquely designed to promote good posture and reduce fatigue on long drives. Pricing for the CR-V starts at $30,850.
Elegant and Rugged: GMC Terrain
The 2024 GMC Terrain is due for a redesign soon, but it still looks great with clean lines and rugged design cues. There’s a lot to like on the Terrain over its four trim levels. The AT4 and Denali are the top trims with more off-road features and luxury accents. The Terrain Denali is a great value with luxury attributes at a price of about $40,000.
The Terrain features the Pro Safety Plus package with several driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and lane change alert. It also has rear parking sensors. In addition to all the safety tech, the Terrain boasts a 5-star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
If you’re looking for a compact SUV that can be had with some off-road upgrades, the Terrain AT4 trim delivers exactly that. It features hill descent control, off-road drive modes, a rugged appearance package, and Sport Terrain tires.
Comparing the Two
Both SUVs offer plenty of space for passengers and cargo, a handsome design, and a long list of tech features. Choosing between the two depends on your priorities. For example, if you want the most cargo space and great fuel economy, the Honda CR-V delivers more in these areas than the Terrain.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for an off-road trim, you can only find that with the GMC Terrain. If you want off-road ability plus luxury, you can also only find that with the Terrain. The Terrain Denali trim is an incredibly affordable way to get a luxury SUV.
